Reports of damage across Guernsey and Alderney are now regularly coming in as Storm Goretti reaches its peak. The control room has recorded several instances of general infrastructure damage, including scaffolding collapsing, damage to roofs, windows blowing in, and a telephone pole collapsing. There are also reports of a gazebo which has come loose.
Emergency Services are currently evacuating one islander to a hotel because of significant damage to their property.
More than 20 fallen trees have been recorded.
Our neighbours in Alderney are also reporting a number of instances of large trees falling across main roads, and significant damage to properties in La Corvee area.
Finally, there continues to be a number of 999 calls being made to JESCC to report non-emergency event. While we appreciate these calls are being made out of genuine concern and a desire to be helpful, police and fire staff are stretched at the moment responding to a wide variety of incidents, so please only call 999 in an emergency.
You can call 01481 222 222 to speak to an operator in a non-emergency situation, but please be patient as call numbers are high at the moment.

⚠️ Please keep 999 for emergencies and follow the advice below.
#HelpUsHelpYouThe Control Room has been getting a lot of calls on 999 to report downed trees.
It is important that the 999 lines stay open for emergencies, and so we'd like to reiterate the earlier message from Guernsey Police asking islanders to only phone 222 222 to report downed trees unless it is an emergency itself.
Phone lines will be busy throughout the night, and so it may take some time to get through. Please be patient.
So far, Storm Goretti has resulted in four trees down across the island, and Rue de la Corbinerie is currently blocked. We will post more updates throughout the night.

Please follow the advice from The States of Guernsey and stay indoors tonight.
Help keep our emergency services free to focus on protecting the islands.Windspeeds are now picking up as Storm Goretti starts to close in on the Bailiwick.
We're asking islanders to stay indoors tonight, and to secure any final parts of their properties. By staying safe inside, you can help keep our emergency services free to focus on protecting the islands.
We will be issuing updates on this social media page and the Guernsey Police pages throughout the night.
In an emergency, phone 999. To report something to the Control Room, call 01481 222 222.
